Daniel learned from the Quandelacy family, in particular Stuart, Sandra and Faye. However, there is a quality… a feeling to Daniel’s work that make them his own. Beyond simply knowing how to carve stone on a grinding wheel, some Zuni carvers turn craft into art. A true Zuni artist can see inside the stone… see what does not appear on the surface… see what is under the stone’s surface. Or, then again, maybe a Zuni can will the stone to the patterns and color he wishes. Jovanna Poblano, Daniel’s wife, also designs and strings the necklaces. She has a wonderful sense of fashion and her combinations of color is unsurpassed. Veronica Poblano, Jovanna’s mother, is a famous Zuni jeweler in her own right. Leo Poblano, Veronica’s father, was a Zuni Innovator.
