Her pieces often appear in terracotta\/red clay tones or polychrome (multi-color) with black, white, and turquoise accents. She has received awards, including recognition in the colored clay category at Mata Ortiz pottery competitions.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMata Ortiz is a small village in the state of Chihuahua, Mexico, less than 100 miles (160 km) from the US-Mexico Border. The community, population 2,000, is one of the designated localidades (localities) in the municipality Casas Grandes, one of several such pueblos in a wide, fertile valley long inhabited by indigenous people.
