She was originally born at Ohkay Owingeh (formerly San Juan Pueblo) and moved to San Ildefonso after marrying Robert Gonzales in 1920. Her mother-in-law, Ramona Sanchez Gonzales, taught her the pottery traditions of San Ildefonso.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRose excelled in both polished blackware (famous from the influence of Maria Martinez's black-on-black style) and redware. Her redware pieces drew from her Ohkay Owingeh heritage, where traditional red pottery was prominent.
