About Matt Wood (Owner)

Matt Wood, a second-generation Native Arts and Artifacts Dealer with 40 years of experience, owns Antique American Indian Art, LLC (AAIA). Alongside his brother Jeff, he managed the family’s original gallery, Len Wood’s Indian Territory, Inc., in Laguna Beach, CA, for 27 years. In 2014, Matt expanded the business to Washington State, first establishing AAIA in Bothell before relocating to a permanent 12,000-square-foot gallery in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island in 2021.
A recognized expert in Native American art, Matt has handled hundreds of thousands of artifacts through the years. Today, Matt lectures, appraises, consults on restoration, and buys and sells Native art from his Oak Harbor gallery.
When not curating rare Native American artifacts, Matt enjoys playing the trumpet and fishing the waters of Puget Sound—pastimes that reflect his deep connection to the music and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest
About Len Wood and Len Wood's Indian Territory, Laguna Beach, CA

As a child, Len Wood rode horseback through the desert with his father, a medical doctor, on the Morongo Indian Reservation near Palm Springs, where he made house calls. These early experiences sparked a lifelong connection to Native cultures. An outdoorsman, craftsman, and lifelong learner, Len’s deep curiosity about the natural world naturally extended to the study of Native American art and traditions.
Years later, after marrying his high school sweetheart, Antoinette (Toni), Len developed a close relationship with a band of Cree Indians led by Chief Small Boy in Alberta, Canada. Inspired by their commitment to live traditionally “off the land in tipis,” Len helped by selling their handmade beaded moose hide moccasins, gloves, jackets, and other crafts. This partnership led to the founding of Len Wood’s Indian Territory in Laguna Beach, California, in 1969—marking the beginning of a family legacy.
In 1986, sons Jeff and Matt joined the business full time, and together, the gallery evolved into one of the nation's leading galleries of antique Native arts.
In 2013, the business expanded with the launch of Matt Wood’s Antique American Indian Art, LLC (AAIA), led by Len and Toni’s middle son, Matt. In 2024, the original gallery merged with AAIA in Oak Harbor, WA, uniting decades of expertise under one roof. That same year, their youngest son, Rob Wood, opened Buena Vista Trading Post in Buena Vista, Colorado, continuing the family’s mission of education and preservation.
Len and Toni, who called Laguna Beach home since 1942, raised three sons and built a 50+ year legacy in Native American art. Now retired in Dana Point, CA, they remain deeply connected, enjoying daily updates on both galleries’ activities.
