Early 20th Century

Hand Crafted from Hide Leather with Glass Seed Beads in a Floral Motif Design

In Very Good Condition

Antique Great Lakes beaded moccasins are beautiful examples of traditional Native American craftsmanship from the Indigenous peoples of the Great Lakes region (including areas around lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario in the US and Canada).
These moccasins are typically associated with tribes such as the Ojibwe (Chippewa/Anishinaabe), Huron (Wyandot), Cree (in overlapping areas), and other Algonquian-speaking groups in the Eastern Woodlands/Great Lakes cultural area. They date mostly from the late 19th to early 20th century (ca. 1880s–1910s), a period when glass seed beads became widely available through trade, replacing or supplementing earlier materials like porcupine quills.
