Asahel Curtis (1874-1941) was a pioneering photographer whose work documented the growth and development of the Pacific Northwest. Born in Minnesota, he moved with his family to Washington Territory as a teenager and learned photography while apprenticing in the Seattle studio of his older brother, Edward S. Curtis.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Asahel Curtis created tens of thousands of images recording the region's forests, mountains, industries, transportation projects, and communities. His photographs provide an invaluable visual record of the transformation of the Northwest from frontier settlements to a modern society. Today, he is recognized as one of the most important photographers in Pacific Northwest history.
