The Bear Katsina is one of the most potent healers among the over 400 Hopi Katsinam (spirits).  Believed to possess immense strength, it uses knowledge of herbs and roots to cure illness and is invoked for protection, courage, and wisdom before battles or challenges.

It often appears in springtime Soyohim (Mixed Dances) or as a side dancer in ceremonies, symbolizing power and guardianship.
