The Duck Kachina, known as Pawik in Hopi, represents the spirit of the duck and is associated with water, rain, and moisture. It often appears in summer dances when rain is needed. Traditional versions feature a distinctive duck-like beak or bill on the mask, a red or colorful headdress (sometimes with feathers), a kilt or sash, and body paint in symbolic colors. Duck katsinas are relatively uncommon compared to more popular figures like ogres, clowns, or warrior katsinas.
