Stella Chavarria is a respected potter from Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico. Born in 1939, she is the daughter of renowned potter Teresita Naranjo and granddaughter of Christina Naranjo, placing her within a strong multi-generational tradition of Santa Clara pottery-making.

She specializes in traditional blackware (black-on-black) pottery, which is coil-built using native clay from the Pueblo, stone-polished (burnished) for a smooth, glossy finish, deeply carved with designs, and pit-fired to achieve the distinctive matte black or gunmetal sheen.
