Historic Kewa (Santo Domingo) Pueblo pottery is one of the most distinctive and impressive traditions among the Pueblo peoples of New Mexico. Kewa Pueblo, located on the east bank of the Rio Grande between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, was formerly known as Santo Domingo Pueblo (officially renamed Kewa in 2009). The Kewa people have a long history of crafting pottery, though they were historically more renowned for jewelry and trading before pottery production gained prominence in the mid-to-late 1800s.
