She is the daughter of noted potter Belen Tafoya Tapia (an innovator of polychrome redwares) and a first cousin of the legendary Margaret Tafoya. Anita learned traditional techniques from her mother as a child and has been creating pottery for decades. She works with her husband Joseph Suazo, who helps dig clay.
