In Very Good Condition Finest Quality Walrus Ivory
Sam Dimmick (1960 Born in Nome, Alaska) is a well-known Native Alaskan carver who began working with ivory at a very young age (around 4 years old, helping his uncles). He specializes in traditional Inuit-style sculptures using materials like walrus ivory, whale bone, and other natural media, often depicting wildlife such as eagles, bears, whales, walruses, and salmon. His work is highly regarded in the Native art world, featured in museum exhibitions across North America, galleries (e.g., Steinbrueck Native Gallery), and auctions. Sam is a noted artist from Nome, Alaska who is well known throughout the Native Art world. His work is shown throughout North America at Major museum shows. The ivory used for this carving it from the uppermost part of the solid walrus tusk, still inside the skull. It yields the cleanest color of the tusk and only one figure like this can be made out of a tusk.
