Hand Carved from Cottonwood Root of an Owl with Great Fine Carved Details on a Wood Base by Earl Arthur

In Very Good Condition

Earl Arthur was a respected Hopi carver active in the late 20th century (with pieces commonly dated to the 1980s–2000s or earlier). He hand-carved katsina dolls from cottonwood root, a traditional material, and his works frequently appear in vintage Native American art sales and collections. He produced various katsinas, including Owl, Deer, Sunface, Ahote, Hototo, Mudhead (Knocked Out style), Eagle, and others, often signed on the base or underside.
The Hopi Owl Kachina (also known as Mongwa or a variant representing an owl katsina) is a traditional figure in Hopi culture, symbolizing wisdom, intelligence, and excellent hunting abilities. Owls are often seen as beneficial to agriculture due to their role in controlling rodents and pests.
Due to the fragile nature of kachina dolls, we do not guarantee they will not break during shipping. We do our best to pack them well, but due to their fragile nature and even with the best packing, small pieces can break. If you are purchasing kachina dolls, please keep this in mind.
