Sunface (Tawa or Sunface Katsina) is one of the most popular and powerful kachinas, symbolizing the sun's warmth, light, growth, abundance, hope, and protection (especially for the elderly and young). It often appears in winter dances to pray for the sun's return and in mixed dances. Typical features A bright, circular face mask (often turquoise, red, yellow, or white) with radiating designs, feathers, and a headdress representing the sun's rays.
Buffalo (often Mosairu or Buffalo Dancer/Kachina) is a source of strength, protection, and sustenance (increasing buffalo populations, providing food/hides). It may carry items like a lightning stick, rattle, or appear with horns and fur elements. Variants include White Buffalo or Black Buffalo. Often depicted in dances related to hunting or abundance.
One Horn (or One-Horned Kachina, sometimes Kwanitaqa or similar) is a distinctive kachina with a single prominent horn, often tied to guardianship, specific ceremonies, or figures like the One-Horned God in Hopi lore. It may have a unique mask or form, sometimes with exaggerated features for ceremonial roles. Vintage examples from the mid-20th century are collectible.
Due to the fragile nature of kachina dolls, we do not guarantee they will not break during shipping. We do our best to pack them well, but due to their fragile nature and even with the best packing, small pieces can break. If you are purchasing kachina dolls, please keep this in mind.
