Hopi kachina dolls are sacred carvings that depict spirits from Hopi mythology, used to educate children about nature, ceremonies, and cultural values.  The Butterfly Maiden is a prominent female kachina symbolizing grace, fertility, agriculture, and the beauty of butterflies, often appearing in pairs with the male Butterfly Kachina (Poli Taka) during night dances in the kiva.
