Hand Coiled Large Jar with Two Panels of Bird and Flower Motif Design
In Very Good Condition
Lois Medina (1959–2003) was a respected Zia Pueblo potter known for traditional hand-coiled polychrome jars and ollas, often featuring classic Zia motifs like birds, rainbows, clouds, feathers, butterflies, plants, and geometric designs.
She came from a prominent pottery family at Zia Pueblo (Tsi-ya) in New Mexico. Her mother, Sofia Pino Medina (1932–2010), formed many of the pots, while Lois specialized in the painting and decorative surfaces. They frequently collaborated, with pieces signed by both. Lois learned from her mother and grandmother Juanita Pino, continuing ancestral techniques using local clay and natural pigments.
