Cochiti Pueblo pottery comes from Cochiti Pueblo (Ko-tyit) in north-central New Mexico, about 25 miles southwest of Santa Fe. It is one of the most distinctive and collectible styles of Pueblo pottery, especially vintage/historic pieces from the late 19th to mid-20th century.
Cochiti potters traditionally use coiled construction (hand-built, not wheel-thrown), with a cream or white slip background on a reddish or orange base. Designs are painted using mineral or vegetal pigments in black (sometimes brown) and red.
