Andrew Sahmie (also known as Andrew L. Sahmie Sr. or Andrew Louie Sahmie), a noted Hopi-Tewa artist from the Corn Clan (active since around the 1980s), carves these from cottonwood root using traditional techniques. His works often feature detailed painting, feathers, fur, and accessories like rattles, bows, arrows, or shell necklaces. He is recognized for katsina carvings, including miniatures and other figures like Butterfly, Squash, or clowns.

The White Buffalo Dancer, Köcha Mosairu, may appear in January, winter dances, at Second Mesa, as a social dancer and represents the most sacred of all the animals. The White Buffalo is a symbol of sacred life and abundance, a sign of great strength.
