The Shalako (sometimes spelled "Shalako") is a significant figure in the spiritual traditions of the Zuni Pueblo people of New Mexico, representing a divine messenger and rain-bringer associated with fertility, blessings, and the transition from the old year to the new. The Shalako Ceremony, one of the most elaborate Zuni rituals, occurs in late November or early December, where towering Shalako figures—often over 7 feet tall—dance through homes, accepting offerings and imparting prayers for rain and prosperity.
