Larry Hobbs, who used the Hopi name Wukogala ("Big Forehead"), was a Hopi carver active in the mid-20th century, particularly noted for his detailed and traditional Kachina dolls.  His works from the 1970s, like this one, blend fine craftsmanship with cultural authenticity, often using cottonwood root for the body, leather for costumes, and intricate paints for masks and details. Hobbs' dolls are collectible, with undamaged pieces fetching over $1,000 in galleries due to their historical and artistic value.  He signed and numbered his editions, emphasizing their limited-run nature.
