G. Honawa, a renowned Hopi carver from the Rabbit-Tobacco Clan who has been active since the 1970s. He is known for creating traditional all-wood Kachina dolls from cottonwood root, often finished with oil-based stains for an authentic, aged look. His works are highly collectible and focus on Katsinam (spirit beings) that reflect Hopi mythology, with intricate details in masks, clothing, and symbols. The "Flower Maiden" likely refers to a Kachin Mana (or Katsin Mana) variation, a common female Kachina spirit in Hopi tradition. These dolls represent benevolent female spirits who accompany male Kachinas in dances, symbolizing fertility, harmony, and offerings to the community. The Flower Maiden specifically holds a squash blossom (or similar floral element) as a symbol of abundance and pollination, tying into Hopi agricultural rituals for rain and bountiful harvests.
