Lawrence (Larry) Martin Dallas is a renowned Hopi carver born in 1969 in Moencopi, Arizona.  He began creating Kachina dolls in the 1980s and is celebrated for his distinctive, wood-inspired style—often letting the natural shape of the cottonwood dictate the form.  His pieces, especially Long Hair and Crow Mother Kachinas, are highly sought after for their artistic detail and cultural authenticity.  Dallas's work blends traditional Hopi techniques with expressive carving, making each doll a unique piece of Native American art.

This Kachina was created by Hopi master carver Lawrence Martin Dallas.  It is unsigned, but it is guaranteed to be his work (which is very distinctive).  Lawrence's work is very much in demand and his pieces are true works of art.  He usually carves small dolls and lets the wood tell him what to make.

The Crow Mother is the mother of the Whipper Kachinas and is considered by many Hopi to be the mother of all Kachinas. She leads other Kachinas into the village during Powamu bearing in her arms a basket of corn kernels and bean sprouts to symbolically start the new season properly. The Crow Mother appears during the Bean Dance on all three mesas.
