Sherry Tafoya is a renowned potter from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico, born in 1956. She is the daughter of Mida Tafoya, granddaughter of Christina Naranjo, and great-granddaughter of Serafina Tafoya, all notable potters, continuing a strong family tradition. Sherry specializes in hand-coiled blackware and redware pottery, known for sharp, crisp incised designs featuring motifs like the avanyu (water serpent), feather patterns, and geometric shapes. She began making pottery at age 14 and has earned awards at the New Mexico State Fair for her jars and wedding vases. Her work is showcased at galleries like Andrea Fisher Pottery and Chimayo Trading, with pieces ranging from small bowls (3.5" x 2.25") to larger jars (up to 14.75" x 11").
