Ergil F. Vallo, Sr., born in 1959, was half Acoma and half Hopi. He signed his pottery as “Dalawepi”, which means “color of the rainbow”. He began creating pottery at age 21 (around 1980) and worked until his death in 2005. He was inspired by his family’s artistic traditions and aimed to contribute to their legacy. His signature, “Dalawepi”, reflects his Hopi name, meaning “Colors of the Rainbow,” and he often signed his work as “Dalawepi, Acoma/Hopi” or “Ergil Vallo, Acoma/Hopi.
