DAVID CHAVEZ carves Zuni animal fetishes from various stone, including travertine, onyx, turquoise and serpentine. David makes both traditional and contemporary fetishes that are simple and strong. David prefers to carve Zuni fetishes that are smooth to show the features of the rock. David was influenced in his carving skills by his uncle, Leroy Chavez. David's brothers, Vince Chavez and Ephran Chavez also carve Zuni Pueblo fetishes.
