There are many Romero family carvers from Cochiti Pueblo. Celebrated for stone fetish carvings, a traditional Native American art form originating around 600 A.D., particularly associated with the Zuni Pueblo but practiced by other tribes, including the Cochiti. Fetishes are small carvings, often of animals, believed to hold spiritual significance or power, used as charms or for ceremonial purposes.
