Pernell Laate – (d 2008). Both Pernell and his brother, Maxx, learned the basics of carving from their uncle, Willard Laate. However, their carvings soon went far beyond basic. They freely shared their skills and many Zuni carvers learned from Pernell and Maxx. Pernell tended to carve animals while Maxx’s carvings are more exotic.
