Larson "Lar" Chapella is a contemporary Hopi (specifically Hopi-Tewa) artist and self-taught Katsina doll carver from Polacca (First Mesa, Arizona) on the Hopi Reservation. He comes from an artistic family—his mother was a potter, and his brothers are also carvers. Chapella has been creating these dolls his entire life, often in a detailed, sculptural style that incorporates elements like pueblo architecture or ceremonial scenes.
