A Kiowa style beaded strike-a-light bag (also called a strike-a-light pouch or case) is a traditional Native American accessory from the Kiowa people of the Southern Plains. These small pouches, typically made from hide or leather, were originally designed to carry fire-starting tools: a piece of flint, a steel striker, and tinder (like dry fibers or charcloth) for quickly kindling a fire.
They often feature intricate glass beadwork in vibrant colors—commonly including sky blue (or "greasy blue"), red, white, yellow, green, and navy—arranged in geometric patterns, hourglass shapes, crosses, or house-like motifs unique to Kiowa artistry. Many include fringe with metal cones (tinklers) or dew claws at the bottom or edges for movement and sound, and they were usually worn suspended from a belt.
