Megalodon sharks were possibly the largest and most fearsome predators that ever inhabited the Earth. The Megalodon is an extinct species of giant mackerel shark that lived approximately 23 to 3.6 million years ago, from the Early Miocene to the Pliocene epochs. They reached 50-60 feet (15-18 m) long. They lived during part of the Cenozoic Era from 15.9 to 2.6 MYBP. This fine tooth is a typical example of the finds sold at rock shops and fossil shows throughout the country. It has high luster and is a classic, fascinating and impressive fossil.

Megalodon shark teeth are among the most iconic and sought-after fossils in the world. These massive teeth belonged to Otodus megalodon (often just called Megalodon), the largest shark (and one of the most powerful predators) to ever live, roaming the oceans from about 23 to 3.6 million years ago during the Miocene to Pliocene epochs.
