Hopi Kachina dolls (also spelled Katsina or Katsinam) are sacred carvings central to Hopi religious and cultural traditions in northeastern Arizona. Carved primarily from cottonwood root by Hopi artisans, these dolls represent katsinam—spirit beings that embody natural elements, ancestors, animals, and cosmic forces. They serve as educational tools, given to children (especially girls) to teach about Hopi cosmology, ceremonies, and harmony with nature. The tradition dates back over 1,000 years, with modern dolls evolving from simple "old-style" figures to intricate, action-oriented sculptures.
Due to the fragile nature of kachina dolls, we do not guarantee they will not break during shipping. We do our best to pack them well, but due to their fragile nature and even with the best packing, small pieces can break. If you are purchasing kachina dolls, please keep this in mind.
