A Warrior Mouse according to Hopi legend from Second Mesa is a clever mouse outwitted a troublesome chickenhawk that was terrorizing the village by eating chickens and rabbits. The mouse sharpened a greasewood stick, dug a tunnel, and emerged during a warrior dance, singing a taunting song: "The hawk kills chickens, and the hawk kills rabbits, but the hawk will not kill the warrior mouse!" The hawk, enraged, impaled itself on the stake, saving the village. This tale celebrates bravery, ingenuity, and triumph over predators, making the Warrior Mouse a hero figure for all ages.
