Vintage Zuni Pueblo Avanyu fetishes are traditional hand-carved objects from the Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, typically depicting a horned or plumed water serpent. Avanyu (also spelled Avaynu or Awanyu) is a revered deity in Pueblo traditions (including Tewa and Zuni influences), often called the guardian of water. It symbolizes water, fertility, renewal, rain, lightning, and protection. The serpent form with horns or plumes represents its power over waterways and life-giving forces in the arid Southwest.
