Stella Chavarria (b. 1939) is a respected Santa Clara Pueblo potter known for her traditional coil-built blackware and redware pottery, featuring deep carving, high polishing, and classic Santa Clara designs.
Born in 1939 at Santa Clara Pueblo (Kha'p'o Owingeh), New Mexico. Daughter of renowned potter Teresita Naranjo (1919–1999) and granddaughter of Christina Naranjo. She belongs to the influential Tafoya family of potters, which includes ancestors like Serafina Tafoya. This lineage traces back to ancient Pueblo pottery traditions.
She began making pottery around 1955, learning traditional methods from her mother. She sources clay locally from the Pueblo and pit-fires her pieces.
