ca 199931.5" l / 2.5" Buckle / 2" Conchos
With an elaborate overlay technique utilizing ancient petroglyphs images, set various gem stones and 18K gold overlay, and on reverse a Navajo storytelling belt depicting various scenes of Navajo life interspersed with Navajo Rug patterns. A masterpiece work.
Obtained from makers daughter: This is a Reversible Concho Belt that my mother, Jennifer Juan, had left to me when she passed. The belt was made by my mother. She was a student at IAIA. Her work has won numerous awards and has been showcased by galleries and museums, Award winning in Gallup Ceremonials, Santa Fe Indian Market, and the Heard Museum. I have sat and debated on if I wanted to sell it or not. I came to the conclusion that this belt is meant to be shared with the art world, which I was able to be a part of growing up. I had moved away from the reservation to pursue my education. I hoping to sell it so that I can gather the materials and tools to follow in her steps. The belt is sterling silver, reversible concho style with different stones on each concho, and is on of a kind. The reversible conchos show on one side traditional Navajo storyteller, and rug designs, and the other side is contemporary abstract with each holding a different stone. "
