An Acoma Pottery Bird Basket with Handle is a distinctive piece of Native American art from the Acoma Pueblo in New Mexico, often referred to as "Sky City." These baskets are hand-coiled using local slate-like clay, known for producing thin-walled, lightweight pottery that is both delicate and strong. The bird basket typically features a twisted handle and bird figurines, often two, incorporated into the rim or design, symbolizing elements like parrots or thunder birds, though the latter is more a collector’s term than a traditional one.
