The Shalako (or Sa'lakwsi in Zuni) is one of the most iconic figures in Puebloan Native American spiritual traditions, particularly among the Zuni and Hopi peoples of the American Southwest. Kachinas (or katsinas) are supernatural beings that act as intermediaries between humans and the divine, embodying natural forces like rain, fertility, and abundance.  They appear in ceremonies to bring blessings, teach moral lessons, and ensure harmony with nature.  Shalako specifically represents a rain priest or messenger, arriving during winter solstice ceremonies to bless new homes and pray for prosperity.
