Excellent Condition

Lynn Quam is a renowned Zuni fetish carver from Zuni Pueblo, New Mexico, celebrated for his graceful, abstract carvings that blend traditional Zuni spirituality with modern sculptural aesthetics. Born into the esteemed Quam family, Lynn learned the art of fetish carving from his mother, Annie Gasper Quam (died 2001), a distinguished Zuni jeweler and carver, and his aunt, Ellen Quandelacy, matriarch of the Quandelacy carving family. He has been carving for over 40 years, often alongside his wife, Jayne Quam, a Navajo fetish carver whom he taught to carve.

Lynn specializes in buffalo (bison) and bear fetishes, crafted from materials like Picasso marble, malachite, turquoise, wild horse marble, jasper, dolomite, and septarian nodules. His buffalo carvings are distinctive for their slightly tilted heads and often feature turquoise or fossilized ivory horns and inlaid turquoise eyes, symbolizing prophecy, endurance, and strength.
