A rare form and in Excellent Condition
The Tlingit people (from southeastern Alaska and parts of Canada) are renowned for their finely twined spruce root baskets, often featuring intricate geometric designs. Small three-legged (or tripod) baskets are a distinctive, less common form in Tlingit basketry. These small three-legged baskets appear to mimic the shape of traditional cooking pots or cauldrons, with a rounded body raised on three short woven legs for stability. They are typically made using the same tight twined technique as other Tlingit baskets (from spruce roots, sometimes with overlays of beargrass or other materials for decoration).
