Born in 1928, Sarah Garcia was a renowned Acoma Pueblo potter, known for her traditional forms and decoration, often incorporating designs associated with Mimbres, Anasazi, and Tularosa ware.
She was part of a group of influential potters who revived Anasazi and Tularosa designs on contemporary Acoma pottery, along with Jessie Garcia, Lucy M. Lewis, and Marie Z. Chino.
Sarah’s pottery is characterized by extremely thin walls and decoration that responds to the vessel’s contour.
Her work is listed in Gregory Schaaf’s book “Southern Pueblo Pottery: 2,000 Artist Biographies” and features a wide variety of shapes.
Sarah’s daughter, Goldie Hayah, continues the family tradition, carrying on her mother’s legacy.
Sarah Garcia passed away in 2015, leaving behind a remarkable body of work that showcases her skill and dedication to traditional Acoma pottery.  #LWIT 040901-151
