Watson Namoki, a Hopi-Navajo carver born August 8, 1963, in Chicago to a Navajo mother and Hopi father of the Fire Clan, is a Hopi-Navajo artist based in Kykotsmovi, Third Mesa, Arizona. A largely self-taught Kachina doll carver who began seriously crafting around 1994, he learned from observing other carvers, including his father, Bob Namoki, and later attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe. His dolls, carved from cottonwood root, reflect Hopi traditions with a focus on precision, cultural authenticity, and compact size.
