Brandon Kayquaptewa was born and raised in the Hopi village of Hotevilla, Arizona, Kayquaptewa began carving Kachina dolls at age 16. He started with drawing in grade school, moved to painting in high school, and evolved into a master carver of Katsina dolls, sculptures, and finely detailed contemporary pieces.

His work spans traditional "old-style" blocky figures to action-oriented, realistic carvings. He has exhibited extensively and won awards at major events like the Santa Fe Indian Market, Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair, and Museum of Northern Arizona Hopi Show. His pieces have been featured in Southwest art magazines.
