Navajo artist Laverna Vandever (often abbreviated as "L. Vandever").  These dolls are popular examples of contemporary Native American folk art, blending traditional Hopi-inspired Kachina motifs with Navajo craftsmanship.  While Kachinas are traditionally associated with the Hopi people of Arizona, Navajo artisans have adopted and adapted the style, creating their own interpretations for ceremonial, educational, and decorative purposes.  Laverna Vandever is a recognized Navajo carver known for producing detailed, signed pieces, often featuring vibrant polychrome painting, feathers, and natural materials like cottonwood root.
