The Zuni Corn Maiden is a significant figure in Zuni mythology and culture, symbolizing abundance, fertility, and the life-giving aspect of corn.

In Zuni culture, the Corn Maiden represents the gift of life through corn, which is central to the survival and prosperity of the community. She is often depicted as one of several maidens, each associated with a different color of corn and corresponding direction (Yellow for north, Blue for west, Red for south, White for east, Speckled for zenith, and Black for nadir). These maidens are said to have created corn seeds by rubbing the flesh off their bodies. According to legend, they initially fled to a land of everlasting summer due to the inappropriate behavior of male dancers but were later recovered through ceremonial rituals to ensure the continuation of corn growth.
