Sedge root, bracken fern root

Fine stitch, near mint or mint condition. Grandmother of owner was a schoolteacher in Sugar Pine, California and collected local baskets between 1910-1925. Of 23 Mono baskets in the collection, eight were made by Mono weaver Mollie Cheppo/Chepo and one each by Mrs Bill Sherman, Emma Burns, "Old Noonie," Mary Brown and Maggie Walker, Rose Kinsman, Mariposa Nayo and "Old Joaquin." Mono Basketry by some of these same weavers may be found at the Autry National Center of the American West.
