The Panamint Tribe, also known as the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe, is a Native American tribe located in south central California, near the Nevada border. They are recognized as the Death Valley Timbisha Shoshone Band of California and have lived in the Death Valley region for over a thousand years. Originally known as Panamints, they were part of the Uto-Aztecan language family. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the Village was 124, and the older members still speak the ancestral Timbisha language.
