Excellent Condition 

Thomas Polacca Nampeyo (1935–2003) was a Hopi-Tewa potter from First Mesa on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. He was the grandson of the renowned potter Nampeyo of Hano and the son of Fannie Polacca Nampeyo (one of Nampeyo’s daughters). His siblings included several noted potters, such as Leah Nampeyo, Elva Tewaguna Nampeyo, Tonita Nampeyo, and Iris Youvella Nampeyo. He was married to Gertrude Polacca and was the father of artists including Gary Polacca Nampeyo, Carla Claw Nampeyo, and others.
One of the first Hopi men to actively produce pottery (alongside Wallace Youvella, husband of his sister Iris), he initially learned the basics from his mother and refined his skills with help from his sisters. Encouraged to develop his own style rather than compete directly in the traditional Sikyatki Revival designs associated with the Nampeyo family, he pioneered deeply carved, polychrome pottery.
Polacca’s innovative carved style earned awards (including first-place honors at the New Mexico State Fair and Gallup Inter-Tribal Ceremonial) and is held in collections such as the Heard Museum and Denver Art Museum. He continued the Nampeyo family tradition of innovation in Hopi pottery while creating a highly recognizable contemporary approach.
