Pit River baskets, crafted by the Achomawi, Atsugewi, and other bands of the Pit River Tribe in northeastern California, are typically made using the following traditional materials:
Willow Rods: Used as the primary warp (upright elements) for the basket’s structure due to their flexibility and strength.

Bear Grass: Employed as a weft material or for decorative overlay, providing a light tan color and durability.

Maidenhair Fern Stems: Used for black decorative elements in full-twist overlay designs, adding contrast to patterns like zig-zags or diamonds.
