Tightly woven basket with beads around shoulder, band of rattlesnake diamonds at upper body and band of people with red and black heads with arms stretched out in a circle dance. With 2 beads missing, otherwise Mint condition.
The Yokuts people, native to the San Joaquin Valley and foothills of the Sierra Nevada, are renowned for their exquisite basketry. This is a large Acorn Mush Bowl and would have been used in both the storage of Acorns, and the cooking of Acorn mush. Shows light native use. A superior weave and execution.
