Edwin Choyou Jr. is a recognized Hopi carver from the Third Mesa village of Hotevilla, known for crafting authentic cottonwood root Kachina dolls in a traditional style. He has produced various figures, including an Owl Kachina (Mong'wa) signed with his name, measuring around 14 inches tall. His work emphasizes cultural reverence, using natural materials and historical carving techniques passed down through generations.
Koyemsi or Mudhead Kachinas are probably the most well-known of all of the Hopi Kachinas. They are clowns, announcers of dances, drummers and play other roles in Hopi Ceremonies.
